IBM Unveils Revolutionary Chip Executing Both Arm and Z Instructions

IBM has introduced an innovative mainframe chip that can natively execute both Arm and Z instructions simultaneously, according to The Register. The chip is built on a cutting-edge two-nanometer technology node and boasts 11 high-performance cores operating at over 5.7 GHz. It includes AI inference accelerators and a dedicated on-chip data processing unit for I/O acceleration. IBM also plans to incorporate a large cache architecture to support demanding enterprise workloads.

This advancement aims to expand the software ecosystem available to mainframe platforms. IBM acknowledges that while mainframes form a core segment of its business, they constitute a small market globally.
